Backing up your Website using cPanel
Backing up your website is just as important as backing up your computer. There’s always a chance the server, which stores your site, may go down or worst comes to worst gets a virus that leaves all your data irretrievable. Most web hosts keep daily backups of your data but it’s also a good idea to keep a copy of your site on a backup drive. Read more
No commentsBETA Launch of Interview Hub
Today (actually last week, but I’ve only just got around to writing about it) saw the BETA launch of INTERVIEWHUB.The site provides a unique marketplace enabling journalists, with celebrity contacts, to publicise their pitches both online and via their email newsletter (also created by Dare to Think). The site will be seen by thousands of editors looking for content to fill their publications. It really is a unique and fabulous site that I have absolutely no doubt will succeed. If you’re a journalist, with contacts, or an editor looking for content then check out interviewhub.co.uk right now.
Centre DIV Horizontally and Vertically using CSS
Here’s a quick guide on how to centre a DIV, both vertically and horizontally, in your web browser window. The main thing to remember is give your container div an absolute position and then the content div within a relative position. Read more
2 commentsDIV align bottom right (or left!)
This was always one of those problems that I had with CSS – getting the content to align to the bottom of it’s containing DIV, be it left or right align. So here’s how to do it. Read more
No commentsDomain Extensions. Are they important?
.com, .co.uk, .net, .org.uk, .info, .biz, .tv – the list of domain extensions goes on and on but is it important which one you choose and if so, which is the best? Firstly think about all of the websites you regularly visit or have heard of – what do they use? The majority either choose an extension local to their country, such as co.uk or a common extension, such as .com. Why? Because they’re universally known and therefore memorable. Why not choose a .net, .info .mobi domain name? For exactly the opposite reason – they’re not memorable. Read more
No commentsHug Your Dog and Hug Your Cat Relaunch
Dare to Think with our current client, brand strategists t7F London, to redesign and develop their clients’ campaign sites. Hug Your Pet was a simple landing page that went through to either Hug Your Dog or Hug Your Cat. Both of the main sites were developed using Wordpress as the backend and used PodsCMS for content areas. The client then has the added ability to maintain and update key sections of the page with minimum fuss.
IE6 Div Height Problem
We all know IE6 is the web developers nightmare and today that continued when I was unable to make a 5px high div appear that height in IE6. Wow, the amount of time I spend on IE6 when developing sites is quite astonishing and I can’t wait for the day when we see the death of IE6. Anyhow back to the problem: IE6 kept wanting to show the 5px high div as 20px! After a bit of playing and hunting around the web here’s how I overcame the problem. Read more
No commentsIs your site LIVE? FREE website monitoring sites
You don’t want to check your website every 5 minutes to see if it’s live. That’s why there’s a number of websites that do it for you. They’ll check, at set intervals, and inform you when your site’s down. You can then get in touch with your hosting provider to see what the problem is and when your site will be back up and running. No commentsLaunch of Adaxial Website
Today saw the launch of the www.adaxial.co.uk. We were recommended to Adaxial’s Denzil Lee by one of our current clients. I know I always say it but it really is great to get a call from a potential client that have heard of Dare to Think through websites that we’ve developed. It just goes to show that if your work is good, your prices are right and you have a good working relationship with your clients that they will be more than happy to refer you.
Adaxial specialises in improving the operational and financial performance of client companies.
No commentsLaunch of La Ferme du Mont Website
Today saw the launch of LaFermeDuMont.com. La Ferme du Mont is a wine producer based in France. Dare to Think were recommended to them by one of our current clients, VertuVin. We love getting this kind of work, through word of mouth, as it goes to show that our clients are happy with the service they receive and the work we produce.
Dare to Think were asked to produce a simple, classic website that reflected their current identity. Along with this was the requirement of a multilingual site, in French and English, and the ability for the client to maintain their site with News additions and site amends.
